Jamie Woon is back & sounding more soulful than ever

Seemingly out on nowhere, UK singer/songwriter/producer Jamie Woon has dropped his first release since Mirrorwriting in 2011. The new single is about as soulful as Jamie has brought it, deliciously soft chords meet a classic RnB groove.

When asked about his most recent work, Jamie stated “I’m really inspired by D’Angelo’s Voodoo and having the band in the room,” he told Pharrell during the track’s official premiere on Beats 1. “It’s a dying art trying to record live players because it costs money to do it properly. My starting point was that I wanted to hear a funky rhythm section.”

Chip diddy Chip – Stuck between a rock & a hard place

In any scene it would be a dream come true for an artist to get snapped up by a major record label and begin enjoying the luxuries that follow, however, what if it doesn’t work out, can they just stroll back into the underground scene that previously adored them?

One man who is finding this out first hand is Jahmaal Fyffe, aka Chip. At 16 he exploded onto the underground scene after releasing ‘Who are you’ which was accompanied by a dark, stripped back video which is now sitting at over 3 million hits on YouTube. He was accepted immediately and feared by many seasoned MC’s, this kid had an insane flow, sincere lyrical content, a natural tone and the confidence to bring all of this to the microphone.

**NEW MUSIC** Kaytranada flips J Dilla & Return of The Mac!

Just hours ago the Canadian DJ/Producer dropped a new track on his Soundcloud. If you’re an avid follower, you would have heard something very similar during one of his residency shows on BBC Radio 1. He said on his Soundcloud “i did that sh*t live in the bbc mix and i thought id share it with yall”

The original beat was by the late J Dilla and vocals from the infamous Mark Morrison.

It’s so nice to able to sing along to this song and not whisper, its been given the ‘cool’ twist it lost all those years ago after its chart success.

Spreading positivity & remembering the best of Finley Quaye

Whilst the rest of the world seem to enjoy taking shots at a much-loved musician from the 90’s, we want to do the exact opposite.

In 1997 the Edinburgh born musician released this single, the trip hop, reggae influenced ‘Even After All’ was fresh back then and still gives you that warm fuzzy feeling when you hear it today.

I’m sure Finley Quaye would have loved for things to work out differently but we’re humans and some people do not always win the battle against their demons.

Haitus Kaiyote / Taylor McFerrin: 4th July Islington Assembly Hall

This double headliner gig (in our opinion) was always going to be amazing. Selling out in such a short space of time you know that only the true fans were going to be in attendance. On arrival, this felt very much the case. The atmosphere was electric. Filled with fans and many producers and artists (we personally spotted the likes of Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei, Jay Prince, Ego Ella May and Sabira Jade to name a few) who came out to share pure love, and learn a thing or two I imagine.

Jordan brings Soul to 100 Club

Last Friday night the Heavy Silence team headed into Town for the much-anticipated first London show for Jordan Rakei & his newly formed band. As many of you will know, we have been avid followers of his for a couple of years so the thought of seeing him live was a no brainer. Jordan is a Neo Soul / Jazz musician from Australia, he gained a huge following on his Soundcloud after his debut EP release; Franklins Room was released. He followed that up with ‘Groove Curse’ late 2014 and has worked with a number of great up & coming producers such as Tom Misch, Esta, FKJ and J Louis.

The Internet announce release date for Ego Death

US band, The Internet; released an album in September 2013 that has lived with many of us ever since. ‘Feel Good’ was a throwback to the RnB golden years of Angie Stone and just makes you feel warm and beautiful every time you listen.

They have just announced that their new album, ‘Ego Death’ will land on June 30th 2015.

The first sneak preview we had of the album was ealier this year when Kaytranada played ‘Girl’ during his Radio One residency and told the world he had been working with the band. If we recall correctly the band angrily tweeted at the time and stated the track was not even called Girl! Looks as though they changed their stance on that…
